Samsung Launches iPhone 6 Plus Rival
On Monday, Samsung unveiled its latest phablet - the Galaxy A7 - to compete with Apple's massive iPhone 6 Plus.
The 5.5 inch phone is "one of the slimmest" in the Galaxy line at just 6.3 mm and features a metal body, unlike many of Samsung's smartphones. Inside, the Galaxy A7 is armed with a multicore processor which combines two separate quad core processors for continuing power, a massive 2,600 mAh battery, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable storage, and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. The Galaxy A7 features an HD SAMOLED display, a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 5 megapixel front-facing camera designed for selfies. The front-facing camera has several advanced selfie features including "Ultra Wide Shot" and "Auto Selfie" modes which allow users to take pictures using only a voice command or hand gesture. The company has not released any information on the device's pricing at this time, noting only that the Galaxy A7's price is "at a competitive price point." The A7 will be available in two variants - an LTE model and a dual-SIM model - as well in four different colors: Frosted White, Charcoal Black, Bronze Gold, and Blossom Pink. The dual-SIM variant is expected to be released for developing markets while the LTE model is expected to be released for Europe. It is unclear if the device will be released for the US. No further availability details have been released at this time.
"We strive to develop devices that appeal to a broad range of consumers and are ahead of the next big social trend," said Samsung CEO and Head of IT and Mobile Communication JK Shin in a statement on the device's unveiling. "Combining both a stunning metallic design and a powerful performance, the Galaxy A7 is stylish while delivering the superior user experience." The Galaxy A7 builds on the company's Alpha line. The smaller A5 and A3 were unveiled in late October.
